The primary purpose of a drip edge is to prevent wind driven water blow under to the shingles. The shelf provided by the drip edge supports the edges of the shingles so that they are not hanging off the roofs edge. Drip edges prevent rainwater from running down the facia thereby extending its life and luster. It can also direct rainwater into a gutter. This drip edge is nailed into place using 1-1/2 galvanized roofing nails.
